Raptors player Jontay Porter banned for life by NBA for alleged gambling
According to official NBA sources, Raptors player Jontay Porter has been banned for life by the NBA league for alleged involvement in gambling. According to the NBA's investigation, Porter placed bets on NBA games, disclosed his health information to gamblers, and restricted himself from participating in one or more games for gambling purposes.
Before the Raptors' game on March 20, Porter disclosed his health information to a known NBA gambler and allowed them to bet on him performing poorly in the game, with a bet of $80,000. In that game, Porter played only 3 minutes, claiming to be ill and leaving the court, helping the gambler win $1.1 million, which was ultimately frozen due to the player's misconduct. Additionally, from January to March 2024, Porter placed at least 13 bets on NBA games using an online gambling account while traveling with the Raptors and Raptors' affiliate development team, the Raptors 905.
These bets ranged from $15 to $22,000, totaling $54,094 in bets. The total payout for these bets was $76,059, with a net profit of $21,965. None of the bets involved games in which Porter participated. Among these bets was one on a Raptors game, where Porter bet on his own team to lose. It is worth noting that Jon Tai-Porter is the brother of Denver Nuggets player Michael Porter Jr.
