Barcelona did not qualify for the 2025 Club World Cup
Following yesterday's UEFA Champions League matches, the 11th, penultimate participant of the 2025 Club World Cup from Europe has been determined.
The second slot from Spain was secured by Atletico Madrid, while Barcelona failed to qualify for the tournament. The Catalans would have played if they had progressed past PSG.
This is because Atletico has a higher UEFA club ranking over the last four seasons.
The last, 12th spot from Europe will go to either Arsenal or Red Bull Salzburg. Previously, the following teams have qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup: Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Porto, and Benfica.
To recap, in the summer of 2025, the Club World Cup will take place in a new format: featuring the top 32 teams from around the world.
From South America, three participants are already known: Flamengo, Palmeiras, and Fluminense. Three more will be determined later.
Asia will be represented by Saudi club Al-Hilal and Urawa Reds. The winner of this season's AFC Champions League and the best-ranked team over the last 4 years will also qualify.
Four participants will come from Africa. It's already confirmed that Al-Ahly Cairo and Wydad Casablanca will compete.
From CONCACAF, participation is guaranteed for Monterrey, Seattle, and Leon.
From the OFC region, New Zealand's Auckland City will participate.
Additionally, one team will be delegated to the tournament by the hosts, the USA.
The 2025 Club World Cup will take place from June 15th to July 13th.
